Sir Patrick Stewart has passed away. He was a wonderful man and a sublime actor who was as skilled a Shakespearian as he was as the lead in two major TV and movie franchises. This post from 2013 recounts the experience of watching him perform live in his first of several surprise appearances with the Improvised Shakespeare Company. It is one of the thrills of my life to have been there that night.

May he rest in peace.
